Athy Town Councillor John Lawler has flatly denied that he's thinking of re-joining either the Labour party or the Fianna Fail party.
And he has categorised suggestions that he may be interested as "malicious rumours put out by malicious people".Cllr. Lawler is a former member of both parties and left Labour at the beginning of this year."I ran as an independent and that's exactly how I'm staying," he vowed."I don't know where those rumours came from. There's always malicious people out there – probably the same malicious people who removed two large posters of mine."It happened five years ago as well. There were two eight by four sheets that were taken down. They were seen on Sunday, but now they're gone."I've just finished taking mine down, but they'll probably reappear in a few weeks time the same as five years ago."But you can take it from me that I ran as an independent and I'm staying independent."If Cllr. Lawler were to re-join the Labour party it would give that party an historic overall majority in the town council for the first time.MPUMinCharsCutOff:210 PageLength:960MPUPositionFromStart:250 MPUPositionRange:1000hasVideoOrImage:False--->
